Tír na nÓg ASD Classes
In September 2020, Radharc Na Mara opened its
first ASD Class. In September 2021 we opened a
second class and in September 2023 we opened a third class.
We are now at full capacity with 18 amazing children
attending Tír na nÓg each day.
In 2022 we successfully raised enough money to
install a Sensory Room, an Occupational Therapy
Room, a Lifeskills Kitchen and an enclosed outdoor
Play Area. A special word of thanks to ThermoKing,
The Bons Secours Hospital, BNP Paribas, KSG
Catering and all the local businesses who so
generously donated to our fundraising drive.
The Sensory Room is an invaluable help to our
children to improve their sensory regulation. If a
child becomes overwhelmed by lights, noises or
unforeseen changes in their timetable, the Sensory
Room is a safe space for them to come to calm and
relax. It also benefits their visual
(projectors/bubble tube/infinity mirrors), auditory
(interactive bluetooth speaker) and tactile
processing (tactile panels on the radiator cover).
The Occupational Therapy Room enables our teachers to
implement physical and occupational therapy in a calm
and sheltered space. We can follow programmes given
to us by each child’s Occupational Therapist and
Physiotherapist now that we have the space and
equipment. The children really love the Ball Pit!!
The Lifeskills Kitchen gives us a safe space to teach valuable life
skills that our children will need throughout their
time at school and for integration into their local
community. We love our cooking and baking
classes, especially making cookies and pizza!
The Sensory Garden and Outdoor Area gives the children the opportunity to
exercise and regulate. It provides a very
important break from the busy classroom
environment. The children love the Jungle Gym,
Climbing Frame and Swings! We love watching our plants grow each Spring,
especially the tasty strawberry plants.
